Do You Think It Is Okay For Miley Cyrus To Appear Topless In Vanity Fair?

According to ET, Miley is going to appear topless in the new Vanity Fair issue but will be covered with a sheet.

I personally think it is not appropiate considering she is only 15 and her fan base is FULL of young girls.

Pop star and 15-year-old Disney sensation MILEY CYRUS tells ET she's "embarrassed" about upcoming photographs of her appearing semi-topless in the new Vanity Fair magazine issue.

"I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed," she tells ET. "I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about."

The photos, on stands next week, accompany an interview with Miley and her dad, BILLY RAY, and were shot by famed photographer ANNIE LEIBOVITZ. As seen on our show promo last week, they show Miley sitting in profile with just a blanket wrapped around her chest.

A Disney Channel spokesperson says: "Unfortunately, as the article suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines."

Update: Vanity Fair Editors responded to the comment made by Miley

Responding to MILEY CYRUS' statement that she feels "embarrassed" by an upcoming photo of her semi-topless in the new Vanity Fair issue, editors at the mag tell ET: "Miley's parents and/or minders were on the set all day. Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley. In fact, when BRUCE HANDY interviewed Miley, he asked her about the photo and she was very cheerful about it and thought it was perfectly fine."

My Thoughts: Saying the pics were meant to be artisitic is just a way to handle the backlash she is getting. She knows the pictures are not appropiate for a 15 year old with a VERY young fan base.

That sucks!!!!
Annie Leibovitz should know better! I am really surprised that she would suggest, because she IS the photog and they have a tendency to "suggest" poses, this for Miley! It's not clear if Dad or Mom was there, although I can't imagine one of them not being present during the shoot. She was plainly manipulated by that Leibovitz, who has some 'splainin' to do!!

OK...she's isn't technically "TOPLESS"...as there is a blanket, which could have been a strapless dress, wrapped around her.

The sensationalism of how "celebrity" news and "political" news is reported is beyond regurgitation worthy!!!

True tiabia but wrapping a sheet around herself takes on a whole new meaning than her just wearing a strapless dress. It is the suggestion of sex that differs between the two.

If she is covering herself with a blanket, she is not topless. Granted the photos may be a bit too provacative for her age.

can she get any lower?? she looks like a ghost in these pictures! she should know better after saying she's a christian! here we have her acting like an immature girl who should not be famous for this! she was only famous for her being in Hannah Montana and now everyone is starting to know her as a slut! just like vanessa hudgens & britney spears!! and guess what??! they all started with disney!
